Box of Threads
Colour is everywhere. It’s one of the most straightforward yet powerful tools, capable of setting a mood, telling a story, or sparking a memory. Yet, it’s often overlooked—taken for granted in the everyday. When used thoughtfully, colour can elevate a space, an outfit, or a moment. It has the power to say something about who we are, what we love, and how we see the world.
I’ve always loved collecting colour. For me, it starts with a spark—a combination spotted in the wild that catches the eye and refuses to let go. It might be the stripes of a deckchair, the peeling paint of an old door, or, in this case, a box of threads discovered at an antique market in Bridport, Dorset.
The threads were a riot of colour—rich reds, deep blues, soft pastels, and unexpected bursts of neon. Each spool was a little time capsule, reminding us how colour connects us to craftsmanship and creativity. In this Journal series, I’ll share more of these colour finds—moments where colour transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary. Because, in the end, that’s what design is all about: finding inspiration in the everyday and turning it into something joyful.
